Balloon and Barter was a collaborative social practice sculpture project amongst Art Practice students in Advanced Sculpture: Concept and Construction with Professor Brody Reiman. Centered on the concept of use-value, they constructed a carnival balloon dart game booth that bartered with participants to play and win a uniquely remixed found stuffed animal made by the students. To play, participants were allowed to exchange what they had on them, tell a story of significance or joke, perform a choreographed dance, or give advice.
The students received over 30 items from snacks, toys, jewelry, a vape pen, beeswax, art prints, tampons, lip liner, chapstick, pens, coupons, drawings, dental floss, a tree branch, a driver's permit, spare change, candies, paint tubes, and paint brushes.
