Rainbow State Fantasies is a monoprint utilizing screen-printed content that complicates popular romanized colonial ideas called “South Seas Island Paradise”. The failed aesthetic of a curio postcard image of Diamond Head, Hawai’i and suggestive tropical plant silhouettes articulates a visual resistance to this colonial imagination that lingers in Hawai’i’s socioeconomic material culture related to tourism media.
This monoprint is a part of the Graphic Arts Loan Collection, University of California, Berkeley.
